As the Air Force is on track to meet its recruiting goals for the first time in five years, signaling a welcome change as the military branch continues to grow and add a twin service.

The Air Force is on track to meet its goal of recruiting 42,000 recruits in 2021, as the fiscal year is about to end in just over a week.

The active duty component of the service hasn’t had too much trouble getting the corps it needs – it has hit its mark every year since 1999.

The elements of the reserve and the national guard, however, were not as successful.

“I have to say I’m pretty excited about making the final force for the first time in my tenure,” Air Force Reserve Chief Lt. Gen. Richard Scobee said during a roundtable with journalists at the Air Force Association conference.

The numbers have been grim for recruiters as fewer and fewer young Americans are interested in joining the military. A recent Defense Department study found that only 11% of young adults are interested in the military.

The Air Force is also experiencing extremely high retention rates due to the economic uncertainty of the global pandemic. Scobee said the fewer people leaving the active duty component, the less reserves the reserve has to bring those people into the fold.

The service has also changed course in recent years when it comes to recruiting. Gen Z worries about things like climate change, work-life balance, and being treated more like a human than a cog in a wheel.

The Air Force has changed some of its policies to deal with this by adding more parental leave and relaxing uniform standards. He has also gone to great lengths to increase diversity and inclusion by conducting follow-up studies to his original Department of Defense-commissioned race report.

He’s also making overtures to Gen Z in unorthodox ways.

The Air Force has its own video game team, which travels and participates in competitions. It also broadcasts live events and uses games as an entry point to talk to kids.

The Space Force is explicit about their work-life balance and career opportunities. Its new human capital strategy focuses on recruiting people who are not inclined to enter the military, prioritizes work-life balance, and uses data to better place guardians.

“We need to think differently about talent management for the Space Force to be successful,” the strategy says. “We are creating a regulated market approach to talent management that integrates and strengthens equity, development and human dignity. It enables individuals to follow paths informed both by their preferences and their understanding of the demands of the Space Force. To that end, we design and implement a new approach to talent management to harness and leverage each person’s unique strengths to nurture high-performing, interconnected teams.

The strategy allows permeability within the service and professions so that members are not stuck in a profession they chose at the age of 18. It will also attempt to cater to people interested in specific areas to follow their passions and give the military a wide range of options and colors for their needs.

Space Training and Readiness Command, which rose last month, reflects not only on work-life balance, but also how much training and work can be virtual.

“One of the things we need to think about is what training events do we need to run as live events? The STARCOM commander, the brigadier. General Shawn Bratton said.

He added that Space Force is not a service that has to be deployed very often in an operational environment. Tutors will work primarily on computers and therefore in-person training is not imperative.

“What we need to think about is how do we improve in virtual space so that the training is as good or equal to what they see in orbit?” Said Bratton.

Global Supplier Celebrates Landmark Agreement With Leading Operator

Premium slots and table games supplier Habanero has strengthened its position in Africa with its latest deal with leading operator brand, Betway, which is owned by Super Group.

Under the agreement, the Habanero collection of high performing titles such as Wild trucks, Egyptian dreams and hot fruits will be available to Ghanaian Betway players through the Betway Africa brand.

Considered one of the continent’s preferred operators, Betway Africa is Betway’s Africa-oriented licensed brand and is present in several regulated African markets including Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.

Seen as a milestone for Habanero in its regional expansion, the Ghanaian gaming market is second behind Nigeria in West Africa for gaming revenue and total number of players – online since 2006.

The deal is expected to be a breakthrough in Habanero’s continued growth in the continent’s regulated landscape.

After celebrating its MGA certification earlier this year, 2021 has seen the studio continue its Tier 1 expansion, with several agreements signed with major global carrier brands in recent months.

Commenting on the agreement, Arcangelo Lonoce, Head of Business Development Europe at Habanero, said: “This agreement is a breakthrough in our penetration of Africa’s regulated landscape, and we see the very dynamic African market as a really promising area for Habanero to continue to grow.

“Now living in Ghana, we can’t wait to start presenting our games to more and more players there than ever before! “

Kwabena Oppong-Nkrumah, Marketing Manager to Betway Ghana, added: “Betway has always viewed Africa as a distinctive market, a market in which we can grow exponentially. Thanks to the latest deal with Habanero, we can now strengthen our leadership position with the studio’s extremely exciting titles.

Mahé, SEYCHELLES, September 21, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – VYSYN Ventures, a long-standing cryptocurrency venture capital fund, is launching a $ 30 million fund that will focus on allocating investments exclusively to the rapidly growing field of blockchain-based games. In recent years, VYSYN has made significant investments and provided substantial support to a number of gaming-focused projects.

After noticing some recent developments and growing interest in blockchain games, VYSYN is committed to increasing its investment and support in the area of decentralized games. The fund will primarily focus on supporting gaming projects that build on the Polygon network.

VYSYN has a long history in the decentralized gaming world and has held important long-term positions in blockchain gaming projects including Ultra, My Neighbor Alice, and Axie Infinity. VYSYN supported Ultra during its fundraising in 2018 and provided significant support to the project by helping in areas such as marketing and development resources. Ultra has since grown to rank among the top games-focused blockchain projects and currently has a market valuation of over $ 600 million.

Likewise, VYSYN provided significant support to My Neighbor Alice at an early stage by investing in the private sale fundraising. VYSYN has also been a major investor in Axie Infinity, the largest blockchain-based gaming project and pioneer of the play-to-earn movement. After noticing the vast potential of Axie Infinity and the earning potential it offered to internet users around the world, VYSYN strategically built a sizable position in the AXS token by racking up large amounts in the open market. As a result of these acquisitions and the subsequent appreciation and success of Axie Infinity, AXS continues to represent a significant part of the overall VYSYN Ventures portfolio.

VYSYN Ventures predicts that decentralized gaming will be the next major and lasting trend in the blockchain industry. Decentralized finance grew exponentially in 2020 as it provided users with lucrative income opportunities through participation in decentralized credit markets. Throughout 2020, the total locked-in value in DeFi increased by a factor of around thirty and continued to grow to reach even larger multiples in 2021. Likewise, blockchain-based games offer the potential for gain lucrative blockchain users around the world and are relevant to a much wider audience as well. The total number of Web3 wallet addresses associated with the Defi space is approximately 3 million. However, the number of players globally exceeds 2 billion and a growing share of them are moving to the decentralized gaming world as they recognize the vast revenue potential that the space offers.

“The blockchain industry is on the verge of a major change. More and more value and attention is turning to decentralized gaming as the field innovates and provides more and more opportunities for internet users around the world. This is especially evident in the growing gambling movement to win, which offers lucrative and sustainable income opportunities for anyone with an internet connection. VYSYN Ventures predicts that blockchain games will experience exponential growth in the years to come and we are establishing the $ 30 million game-focused fund to be strategically allocated to this area. – KVESTOR, CEO of VYSYN Ventures

The $ 30 million fund will primarily support gaming projects that use the Polygon network as an underlying structure. The Polygon network provides a low-cost, high-speed settlement layer that hosts a growing share of cutting-edge decentralized applications. VYSYN has worked closely with the Polygon team to support several previous projects and has never ceased to be amazed by the professionalism and skills of the Polygon team. VYSYN wishes to strengthen its collaborative efforts with the Polygon team. For this reason, the fund will primarily support gaming projects that deploy their technology on Polygon. However, the fund will not be limited exclusively to Polygon and disruptive projects using other channels may also warrant support.

Any potential game projects that require full support and investment can contact the fund by sending an email hello@vysyn.io. The VYSYN Gaming Fund will provide versatile support in areas such as funding, marketing assistance, and connections with entities such as influencers and industry exchanges. VYSYN Ventures predicts that the growth of blockchain-based games will far outpace other blockchain niches in the coming years and is positioning itself as a major investor in this area with the launch of this initiative.

For students, walking through the 175-acre Boston University campus can seem daunting.

Marsh Plaza on the CraftBU Minecraft server. The collaborative project creates the entire Boston University campus in Minecraft for users to explore virtually. BAILEY SHEN / FREE DAILY PRESS

However, in the CraftBU project to build the entire campus from BU to Minecraft, students can now soar above the campus, contemplate Commonwealth Avenue, explore Warren Towers, and even see Raising Cane’s basement.

The project started after the combination of two existing projects: a solo project by Nicholas Marchuk, a junior from the College of Engineering and a group project led by Jithvan Ariyaratne, member of the Gaming BU at the time, graduated in spring 2021 from the College of Arts and Sciences. .

Marchuk, the project’s lead architect, said the BU construction was an outgrowth of one of his previous projects: building his high school in Minecraft before it was demolished.

“This building… that I had a lot of memories in, they were about to demolish it,” he said. “Internally I just wanted a way to figure out what the new normal would look like, so I started a project with friends to build my high school in Minecraft and we did, and it was very popular with everyone. the world there. “

Likewise, Marchuk added that when he first arrived on campus, he turned to Minecraft to help him adjust to Boston and the unfamiliar campus layout.

“I started building it on my own, then I quickly realized that it was a much bigger project than a single building,” Marchuk said.

In 2019, BU Gaming contacted Marchuk to build the campus in Minecraft.

Ariyaratne, CraftBU project manager and former BU Gaming member, said the BU campus model created by CraftBU builders can help incoming freshmen, transfer students, and relocating students to make informed choices about their life on campus, including the various dormitories. the amenities are, transport and walking time to the courtyards.

On the CraftBU website, the virtual campus can be used for virtual tours, virtual events, “realistic route planning”, accommodation plans and unrestricted campus exploration.

“It’s frustrating at the start of every semester that you have all these discussion threads on Facebook or Reddit or any social media platform, people just asking the same questions over and over again,” he said. said Ariyaratne. “Sometimes they don’t get answers.

Ariyaratne said he realized the club “was losing a lot of casual players because we really didn’t support them or give them a reason to come… without being scared of all the competition. [players]. “

So, to make the club more accessible to casual gamers, Ariyaratne said BU Gaming created a Minecraft server in 2018. For fun, gamers started building their dorms and other aspects of the campus.

Over the following summer, Ariyaratne decided to make the Minecraft campus created by BU Gaming more true to the real thing after noticing small details that weren’t, including the scaling of the buildings.

“We realized that if you’re actually building this, we need the planning,” Ariyaratne said. “When I was going to class I would notice all the buildings and the architecture and I thought it looked pretty cool and I was like ‘damn it, let’s do some work and build BU. “”

Marchuk said that once he joined BU Gaming and Ariyaratne to work on the Minecraft server map, more resources such as satellite data became available.

“[Ariyaratne] had a server with a lot of people coming in and out, ”Marchuk said,“ and it just became a much more collaborative thing, which was fun. “

Ariyaratne said the team used OpenStreetMap data to automate the block-by-block campus building process for convenience. He said they also used Google Maps to reconstruct the campus accurately, as in building Commonwealth Avenue correctly.

“[Commonwealth Avenue] is not straight, so we had to rotate the whole map 1.2 degrees clockwise, ”Ariyaratne said. “Based on how many degrees we rotated the image to flatten it, we entered it into our code and generated the map.”

He said the focus on getting the issues right extends to demolishing buildings and rebuilding them from scratch if builders run into any flaws.

“Warren [Towers] is huge, it’s a lot bigger, so it was a much bigger project, ”Ariyaratne said. “We actually rebuilt Warren three times because we were a block or two away [Commonwealth Avenue] or vertically.

After the final reconstruction, the team began work on building the interior of Warren Towers, including with working elevators, he said.

Marchuk said that in addition to the practical value of the CraftBU project, the Minecraft model was a fun and easy way for him to pass the time during his 40s in 2020.

“It’s satisfying to have the same campus, but you can fly and spin and go under stuff,” Marchuk said. “It’s a freedom type thing.”

Epic games announcement that a new fashion collaboration with Balenciaga is coming Fortnite, his hugely popular battle royale game. The new drop dresses four Fortnite original characters in new Balenciaga clothes. However, the timing seems a bit odd given the current controversy over Balenciaga’s cultural appropriation and Fortnitethe recent event of Martin Luther King Jr.

Fortnite is well known for bringing all he can into his metaverse. From Ferraris and Ariana Grande to Thanos and Superman, it’s no surprise to see a major fashion brand appear in the article. The collaboration includes new outfits, a bling back and cosmetics based on the brand. Fortnite has added a community-created hub where players can enter a Balenciaga virtual store.

The collaboration with Balenciaga comes just weeks after the game’s Martin Luther King Jr. March Through Time event, which smacks of bad timing. Balenciaga was recently criticized for pulling out sweatpants that boosted accusations of cultural appropriation. Marquita Gammage, professor of African studies at California State University, Northridge, told CNN that these pants, inspired by the sagging trend, are an exploitation of “black culture, in the hope of making a profit. important “.

Saggy pants have often been used to criminalize black Americans. The fact that the item was sold for $ 1,190 and dubbed “high-end fashion” drew much criticism from those who saw it as an act of cultural appropriation.

Fortnite heavily promoted its March Through Time event, which strove to educate its young players about the civil rights movement. However, tough decisions must be made if companies are to take action to show their support for POC communities. These decisions may include reassessing relationships with brands like Balenciaga.

This week, the United States resumed deportation flights to Haiti under the public health order. On Wednesday, immigration and customs services repatriated around 90 Haitians.

Among those deported were families with young children, according to the Haitian Bridge Alliance, a rights group, which also said they had been deported under Title 42. Many Haitian families said they were afraid and are not being deported, the official said.

ICE Air uses chartered planes which have the capacity to carry approximately 135 people. The Defense Ministry is also expected to provide planes to transfer migrants to other border crossings to reduce overcrowding in Del Rio. ICE transported migrants from Laughlin Air Force Base to Del Rio in El Paso, Tucson and San Diego for processing.

In recent months, the administration has stepped up deportation flights to Mexico, Central and South America. In August, there were 99 probable withdrawal flights compared to 46 in July and 35 in June, according to Tom Cartwright, who tracks ICE Air flights for Witness at the Border, an advocacy group.

Haitians make up a small share of border workers, around 4 percent of migrants encountered by border officials in August, eclipsed by Central Americans and Mexicans.

But their numbers have swelled in recent months. Nearly 28,000 Haitians have been intercepted by border patrol along the US-Mexico border during the current fiscal year, which ends September 30, compared to 4,395 in 2020 and 2,046 in 2019. of 28,000, less than 4,000 were transformed. under the public health rule, according to the most recent border data, which covers arrests until the end of August.

Despite the public health measure, along some stretches of the border, the United States has not deported migrant families with young children because Mexico refused to accept them. And on some days Mexicans tell border officials their shelters are at full capacity and can only accommodate a certain number of migrants.

The Russian government has been increasingly blunt in recent days about its willingness to use threats of arrest to prevent use of the app.

“With the participation of Apple and Google, specific crimes are committed, the scale of which can only increase in the coming days”, declared Thursday Vladimir Dzhabarov, member of the upper house of the Russian Parliament. “Persons contributing to the evasion of liability of their parent companies in the territory of the Russian Federation will be punished. “

It remains to be seen whether Friday’s concession by Apple and Google will turn into a watershed moment as America’s tech giants stand ready to withstand pressure from the Kremlin. Amid Russia’s crackdown on dissent this year, Silicon Valley’s most popular platforms have remained freely accessible, allowing journalists and activists to continue to get their message out. On YouTube, for example, Team Navalny’s investigations into the corruption of the Russian elite regularly garner millions of views.

But Friday’s move could embolden the Kremlin as well as governments around the world to use the threat of suing employees to leverage companies. It presents a test of Silicon Valley ideals around free speech and an open Internet, balanced not only against profit but against the safety of their workers.

Deletions of Facebook and Twitter posts, YouTube videos, and other internet content happen quite regularly as businesses seek to comply with local laws around the world. In China, Apple has removed apps that counter government censors, including software that would allow Chinese users to access the open global Internet. A 2016 court ruling in Russia led Apple and Google to remove LinkedIn from their app stores after LinkedIn failed to comply with a law requiring data about Russian users to be stored within the country’s borders. country.

But Friday’s deletions by Google and Apple have little precedent given election issues and Mr Navalny’s high-profile campaign against the Kremlin, said Natalia Krapiva, legal adviser to Access Now, a civil society group. tracking down internet censorship. “It’s really a new phenomenon to attack app stores,” Ms. Krapiva said.

While companies would prefer to be seen as impartial platforms, Ms. Krapiva said industry leaders should speak out more forcefully to defend free speech and an open internet, especially if employees across the Internet company were threatened with criminal prosecution.
