It’s been a rough month for the launch of Overwatch 2. In the early days of release, Blizzard’s long-awaited sequel to 2016’s team-based shooter was experiencing connection issues, leaving millions of players unable to enter matches. While many server issues have now been resolved, Blizzard now has another challenge: making enough sales from microtransactions to support the franchise’s shift to a free-to-play model.

So far it has been quite difficult. Overwatch 2’s recent Halloween event, Halloween Terror, introduced a variety of themed character skins and weapons to the game for the “discounted” price of 2000 Overwatch Coins each, roughly the equivalent of $20. A legendary skin for the character Kiriko was available for 2600 Overwatch Coins, a discount from the original price of 3700 Overwatch Coins. As you can imagine, this is already bothering some players, especially since this year’s Halloween update removed the ability to earn unlockable skins simply by progressing through the game.

Obviously, some players aren’t willing to spend more than $20 on an alternate outfit for their character. However, we know that players are more than happy to spend roughly the same price in other free games such as Fortnite to unlock characters from popular franchises, whether it’s Goku from Dragon Ball Z or Spider-Man from Marvel. It’s something Jon Spector, Overwatch’s chief commercial officer and vice president at Blizzard, seems well aware of, according to a recent interview with GameInformer.

In the interview, Spector announced that while he’s not a Fortnite player, he thinks it’s “super cool” and “awesome” to see brand collaborations such as Naruto popping up in Fortnite.
“As we look at the Overwatch 2 space, these are things we’re interested in exploring,” he says.

So, with Overwatch 2’s current monetization strategies leaving a lot to be desired, could we see a shift towards branded collaborations as the core monetization strategy rather than the traditional Legendary and Epic skins? Lowering the price of skins and embracing Fortnite-style collaborations would make a lot of business sense for Overwatch 2, especially since the company still seems torn over its pricing, according to a recent survey sent to some players.

We know that Fortnite’s collaborations with Marvel, NFL, Nike, and Ferrari have been a huge success for Epic, thanks in large part to the amount of revenue they generate through the sale of cosmetic items such as skins, emotes , banners and emoticons. As an example, the game’s collaboration with the NFL sold 3.3 million NFL-themed skins for $15 each in November and December 2018, according to leaked court documents of the Apple v Epic case. This represents nearly $50 million in revenue.

The big question now is how easily Overwatch 2 can replicate Fornite’s core business model and how well these collaborations fit the Overwatch brand.

One of the biggest challenges facing Overwatch 2 is the fact that it’s a hero-based shooter, with each hero having their own unique set of skills, traits, and playstyles. As is often the case with team shooters, players often find themselves favoring specific heroes, whether offensive heroes or defensive heroes that match their preferred playstyles.

That means Overwatch 2 will have to think carefully about how it rolls out brand collaborations. For example, will a Marvel collaboration introduce special themed skins for each hero in the game, or introduce a new limited-time character to the game? The introduction of any new characters will need to be calculated carefully, so as not to negatively impact the balance of existing characters.

It’s more likely that Overwatch 2 will introduce themed skins rather than new characters like those seen in Dragon Ball Z. Depending on the popularity of the IP that Overwatch 2 is chasing, I suspect players will be more likely to invest $15 or $20 in a skin that turns their favorite Overwatch hero into an alternate version of their favorite anime, movie, TV, or comic book characters, whether it’s Spider-Man, Darth Vader, or any of the Transformers.

Overwatch 2’s hero-based mechanics could also mean that skins are only available for specific characters. While this may cause some backlash from some fans at first, it could also open up alternative sources of income. For example, tank hero Reinhardt’s style and appearance lends itself well to a Transformers skin. Players who don’t usually choose Reinhardt but are big Transformers fans may be tempted to buy a Transformers skin for him and start using him more. In turn, this could have a ripple effect on players purchasing Reinhardt’s larger cosmetic items.

There’s no denying that Overwatch 2 is a great game; reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. If Overwatch 2 continues to struggle with monetization models, brand collaborations like Fortnite’s could be the answer to its future success. But taking an established franchise that previously carried a full-price retail tag and moving it to a free-to-play model is no easy task.

Key Considerations When Choosing Your Target IP

If you’re a game developer looking to emulate the success of Fornite’s IP, there are a few things to consider before integrating IP into your game.

  • Don’t choose a target IP just because it’s a very popular brand or character. Look at your game and your players and ask yourself if this is something that will resonate with them. For example, a smart partnership between The Walking Dead and State of Survival brought 20 million new players to the game. A good understanding of the demographics of your players is therefore essential. Be prepared to prove this to licensees as well, as they will be equally interested in knowing if there is an audience overlap.
  • It may sound simple, but be sure to do your homework. Different IP rights holders may have very different priorities and strict requirements for use. Larger properties, especially those popular with children, can be particularly strict as it is in the owners’ interest to carefully limit their use. It is therefore up to the developers to demonstrate their ability to respect them. Being prepared can give you a huge advantage and help you get through some of the initial screening stages and introduce yourself to the right decision makers.
  • There are more ways to incorporate IP into your game than ever before. So think carefully about your main goals, because simpler game items, like cosmetics and skins, are often much easier to negotiate with rights holders due to less complicated terms. Plus, lighter development and build costs can make them much faster to deploy. . FIFA 23 recently brought Apple TV’s Ted Lasso as well as Marvel cards to Ultimate Teamwith these simple and smart offerings opening the door to further collaborations in the future.

At the beginning of 2022, Bethesda Game Studios made a difficult decision: to postpone the release of the highly anticipated adventure game, star field, until the first half of 2023. The decision was met with equal parts disappointment and understanding, as fans lamented the original November 2022 release date and looked forward to a more polished game in the future. According to Microsoft Head of Gaming Phil Spencerthis grief was necessary – because to delay star field was the right thing to do.

Talk to The edgeSpencer detailed the decision to delay the game and spoke openly about Bethesda’s past with games that could possibly should were delayed and were not.

“It’s not really a decision to move a game after spending the team effort for several years just to get to a point where you know you’re not going to deliver the game you want by the date promised. “, explained Spencer. . “Now it’s on some level because I shipped games too soon. We experimented with shipping games too soon.

Lily: Starfield will last 40-50 hours, with a silent protagonist

“Looking back, when you look at a game like star field, it took so long and so much investment in new IP from the team. The decision to give the team time to build the game they feel they need to build is simply the right thing to do.

“These decisions have financial implications. Weighing in on what’s going to happen, whether it’s platform growth, subscriber growth, or, frankly, the revenue you generate when launching a new game, those are business decisions . You definitely need to weigh the outcome of these decisions.

Spencer spoke in more detail about the expectations placed on the upcoming game, particularly as a major Xbox-exclusive title designed to attract new players to the console ecosystem. With added pressure and expectations, Bethesda needed more support — which Spencer says Microsoft was happy to provide.

“I just wanted to make sure those teams felt they had the support they could get from Xbox,” Spencer said. “Maybe feel some of the benefits of being part of a larger organization that has other sources of income and other things that might be helpful.”

Going forward, the Xbox team will continue to support Bethesda as it heads into the first half of 2023. While star field is currently undated, we expect to hear more about the upcoming game over the next few months. He joins the vampire shooter red fall as one of Xbox’s flagship releases for early 2023.

While some years see several major FPS games launching during the holiday season, this year we only have two and, oddly enough, both are from Activision. In October, Overwatch 2 finally launched and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II arrived, delivering the biggest opening weekend in COD history. Many of us only have a limited amount of time to dive into a game, so which one should you choose this holiday season?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the sequel to Infinity Ward’s 2019 soft reboot of the Modern Warfare series. Modern Warfare (2019) was my favorite Call of Duty game for many years, but Activision’s strict annual release schedule meant the game was quickly replaced by more Black Ops, and later it was replaced by Vanguard. Now, after what I would consider two years of “dip” for Call of Duty, Infinity Ward is back to put the franchise back on top.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) is a worthy sequel. In my mind, Modern Warfare has always been the best line of Call of Duty games and Infinity Ward has once again delivered. The campaign is high octane action with memorable levels throughout. Over the first couple of hours, you’ll be reintroduced to many returning characters, and the campaign touches on all the classic gameplay moments you’d expect, from building raids to air combat support to leveling up. classic sniper.

I haven’t finished the entire campaign yet, but I’ve already seen a healthy mix of high-octane action gameplay and stealth-oriented gameplay with a more tactical focus. Call of Duty’s sniper levels almost always climb quickly to the top of my leaderboard, but this year’s campaign also has a heck of a car chase level, which involves hijacking vehicles to mount a convoy, stalking, and snagging. Dodge out of your car to shoot enemies to keep moving forward, then quickly get back in your vehicle to avoid landmines. It was a lot of fun and avoiding timing everything correctly isn’t a particularly easy task. I imagine this will be one of the trickier levels if you max out the difficulty, but in the interest of saving time, I’m playing on normal difficulty at the moment.

I haven’t even mentioned the visuals yet, and that’s one area where Call of Duty continues to shine. Technically, it’s one of the best-looking shooters I’ve ever played, and the game runs great even on Ultra settings. Using an RTX 3070 Ti and Core i7-8700K I consistently shoot over 100fps in the campaign and in multiplayer I’m able to exceed 120FPS which makes for a very smooth experience.

The campaign hooked me, but the multiplayer doesn’t appeal to me as much as I would have hoped. I’ve played most of the modes available and have a few standout favorites – Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, and Prison Break. All three of these modes are team-focused, but unfortunately, being Call of Duty, you’ll often be faced with players who prefer solo play and don’t necessarily focus on the objective or do pay attention to what is happening with the rest of the team in other parts of the map. This has been a problem with Call of Duty for years, as fast TTK rewards fast movement and allows solo players to really stand out and shine. It’s easier to take on a match as a single player, so there’s less focus or reliance on team-oriented gameplay, even in objective-based modes.

It’s something I enjoyed a lot more in my youth, but now that I’m approaching 30, I’ve developed a fondness for team play. Luckily, there’s another recently released shooter that delivers in this exact area – Overwatch 2.

I didn’t expect to enjoy Overwatch 2 at all after playing the beta earlier this year. You may remember a previous KitGuru game in which I denounced the sequel and lamented its changes. Now, months later, Overwatch 2 has launched and I’ve spent the last few weeks totally hooked.

Overwatch has always been fun, and it’s safe to say that Blizzard abandoned the original game too soon in order to focus its efforts on a useless sequel. That’s still true and as it stands, Overwatch 2 doesn’t feel like a full sequel. What often gets lost in this argument is that at its core, Overwatch is still a great game.

Overwatch has such a fun mix of unique heroes and the move to 5v5 gameplay means choosing the right hero for a given situation is all the more important. We have tanks that specialize in shields, and others that specialize in charging into enemy lines to break up formations and distract attention. Maps have multiple side roads, so a decent Reaper can sneak through and cause additional mayhem. Healers are the backline, tasked with keeping your tank and DPS players alive long enough to get kills so the team can move forward.

This team-based focus is a gift and a curse. When you have the right group together, everything will click together almost seamlessly and you can make great strides towards the goal. The downside is that if you’re playing solo, you can find yourself in situations where no one really wants to play their role or play as a team. I’ve come across a lot of offensive-focused Moira players who barely heal, and I’ve come across DPS players and tanks who like to load into a full team with no saves. If a Mercy and a tank charge into a fight alone, the Mercy is going to be knocked out immediately and the tank isn’t going to last much longer either. If you hang back and wait for other DPS heroes to arrive, you’ll have a better opportunity to scatter the defense and pick players.

Role Queue mostly solves this problem, but with challenges that often reward players for queuing for all roles instead of just selecting what they’re good at, the matchmaking pool can sometimes be mixed. This is a problem that will lessen over time. Overwatch 2 had a huge launch with over 25 million players logged in in the first two weeks and 35 million players in the first month, many of whom were newbie players who needed to learn the ropes. With that in mind, as the expanded player base becomes more skilled and knowledgeable, the likelihood of being matched with capable players should increase.

It’s also worth noting that if you don’t like the role restrictions in place for normal ranked and unranked play, you can choose one of the other modes. There are arcade modes that remove restrictions, so you can have an all-tank team, or three tanks and two healers, or a group of DPS players, etc. These modes are fun, but often playing with two or three tanks in a team feels overpowering, as you can smash your way through modes like Push. Still, it’s a fun mode and I spent a lot of time in Arcade compared to traditional modes.

Blizzard also gave us a quick look at the future of Overwatch 2 this month with its Halloween mode. For the event, Blizzard has implemented a new PvE mode with new hero dialogues and boss battles. It plays out almost a bit like Overwatch meets Destiny, and by limiting the heroes you can choose to tackle this mission, Blizzard can ensure a certain level of challenge. It was great fun and gave me high hopes for Overwatch 2’s PvE campaign, which is set to arrive in 2023. We can only hope that Blizzard will continue to add PvE content in the future as well, as this It would be a shame to put together a really fun mode only to abandon it in favor of focusing all efforts on multiplayer.

If you have to choose which game to spend your time in this holiday season, I’d choose Overwatch 2 if you have a few friends you can convince to join you. If you’re primarily a single player then Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II might be the way to go, but I’d wait for a sale closer to Christmas because even with the big campaign £60 is a big ask, especially if you’re on the go. there’s going to be premium expansion coming next year. Overwatch 2, on the other hand, is free, so you can download it and start playing without having to shell out any money.

If you’re interested in skins and cosmetics, however, you’ll find some issues here. Blizzard removed free loot boxes and replaced them with a skin shop and a battle pass system with very few free rewards included on the track. This is an area that Blizzard really needs to clear up, either by making skins cheaper in the store or by adding more free tier rewards in the battle pass. As far as progression goes, you’ll be able to complete the season pass without a problem, as Blizzard gives you plenty of XP for completing very easy challenges each day.

KitGuru says: Will you be playing one of the two major shooters this holiday season? Will you dive into Overwatch 2 or take on Call of Duty?

A key architect for the UK video games industry has been honored with a scholarship from a Midlands University Group and University Centre.

David Darling, founder and CEO of game development studio and publisher kwalee and co-founder of Codemasters, was made a Fellow of the Warwickshire College and University Center (WCUC).

The scholarship was awarded at a ceremony at St Mary’s Church, Warwick on October 13, which also saw graduate students from across the University Centre.

David Darling, CEO of Kwalee, receiving the Fellowship Award from Angela Joyce, CEO of WCUC.

WCUC is the higher education arm of the WCG University Group (formerly Warwickshire College Group), which includes Royal Leamington Spa College, Warwick Trident College, Moreton Morrell College, Rugby College, Pershore College and Evesham College .

Royal Leamington Spa College is based in the heart of Silicon Spa, a nickname for Leamington Spa, one of the largest groups of game developers in the UK.

The college offers a series of courses in game design and game art from level 3 to university level, with many of its graduates going on to work for game developers, including Kwalee.

David Darling is recognized as one of the founding fathers of ‘Silicon Spa’, having founded Codemasters with his brother Richard in the region in 1986.

Codemasters released classic game series including Micro Machines, Dizzy and Colin McRae Rally, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. In 2007, the Darlings sold their interests in the business.

David Darling founded Kwalee in Leamington Spa in 2011 and grew the company into one of the most successful hypercasual game publishers in the world. Since its inception, their games have been installed over 900 million times. Darling is still innovating after decades in the industry and remains more committed than ever to bringing great games to millions of gamers across mobile, PC and console platforms.

Kwalee employs around 300 people in its studios in the UK, India, Portugal and China and remote team members around the world. The company’s success has seen over £1.5million in profits paid directly to its employees. Currently, Kwalee has over 180 open positions on its career portal.

David Darling has opened up on his shared history with Warwickshire, saying: “It was a big surprise and I’m really proud to have been made a Fellow of WCUC. I will try to motivate students and will be particularly interested in those in art and game design classes. My daughter went to college and really enjoyed and benefited from their creative, hands-on, hands-on approach.

We are always looking for new talent at Kwalee and the role of the education system is very important in developing this talent..”

It’s great that people have the ability to learn about games now, it wasn’t really an option when I was a student in the 1980s.

When I was a kid, we traveled around the world. I went to 14 different schools and lived in many countries. We settled here in Warwickshire and have been here for 30 years now. This is my home, a beautiful place, and I love living here in the heart of the country.

Angela Joyce, CEO of WCUC, said: “The title of Fellow is the highest distinction that we can award as a college group and university center. The scholarships are presented after careful consideration, and we were delighted to recognize David Darling this year.

David has been one of the most influential figures in the domestic video game industry over the past 40 years and continues to innovate and create great games for millions of gamers around the world.

His work has had a significant positive impact on the economy of Leamington and Warwickshire at large, and we are pleased to welcome David to our core group of Fellows..”

Games on the M3 network support both a free version for regular games and a paid NFT version for esports. You can also access the games without logging into your wallet.

In the Freemium version, players collect game cards for free which they can then turn into NFTs at a floor price. From this freemium version, players can access paid NFT tournaments in the “League 5” ladder, after understanding the game.

The NFT version allows NFT holders to earn money by participating in daily tournaments and earn passive income through the “Scholarship” program, where they can rent NFTs to other players so that they can participate at tournaments.

Watch the M3 trailer below;

Benefit from the economy of M3 games

1. Earn revenue from NFTs:

Players can obtain NFTs on M3 games by crafting them, buying them, or paying to have the game cards they have accumulated turned into NFTs. These NFTs can then be traded, held to increase in value, or loaned to other players to earn money. Since NFTs can be used in multiple games, they can also be used to develop new games for the ecosystem. This creates an entire industry for digital properties on the platform. Owners of NFTs on the platform earn passive income as shown in the image below.

2. Benefit from M3 tokens:

The M3 token and the MGR (Meta Golden Rabbit) token are the two tokens of the M3 ecosystem. The M3 token, which can be used to buy NFTs, register for competitions and participate in the governance of the platform, costs 1 euro for 1 M3. Conversely, the MGR token is obtained by converting Golden Rabbits off-chain. Both tokens increase in value due to the injection of profits by the creators of the network, which generates passive income. Explore the illustration below;

3. Participate in tournaments:

There are regular game tournaments where players register with M3 tokens and compete against other players on the platform to win prizes. The image below gives a more detailed explanation of tournaments.

Multiple Uses of M3 Games

The M3 network serves different types of users by providing various benefits to those users.

1. For players:

M3 allows players to choose which game they want to play, using their favorite NFTs and crypto assets. They can also create a vibrant esports career by participating in tournaments or trading gaming assets.

2. For studios:

M3 allows studios to create games using graphics IP with an already existing community. This reduces marketing costs as game studios won’t have to manage artists directly, only load transferable assets directly into their games.

3. For Artists:

M3 offers artists a starter kit to help them start their game design journey instead of learning from scratch. Also, artists can collect royalties on each sale of their creations.

M3 Games will change the industry

With its extensive crypto support, M3 Games seeks to make cryptocurrencies accessible to the general public in a way that is enjoyable, accessible and easy to understand. Additionally, by making professional gaming a viable and rewarding career option, M3 is also advancing esports.

Pushing the Boundaries of Time and Space with Doctor Who Velocity – Fandom Underground https://staticgamer.com/pushing-the-boundaries-of-time-and-space-with-doctor-who-velocity-fandom-underground/ Sat, 29 Oct 2022 14:34:01 +0000 https://staticgamer.com/pushing-the-boundaries-of-time-and-space-with-doctor-who-velocity-fandom-underground/ Buried as it is between the mountains and the desert, Boise Idaho doesn’t have much of a movie industry. Buried as it is between the mountains and the desert, Boise Idaho doesn’t have much of a movie industry. What it has, hidden on its streets in the often child-crowded rooms of an unassuming house, is one very odd thing in common with the TARDIS: that, sometimes, it’s bigger on the inside. Doctor Who Velocity is the brainchild of Chris Phillips and Krystal Moore, a fan-favorite series exploring the limits of special effects, short storytelling, and an ever-growing list of new challenges to overcome.

From its writing to its themes to the momentum of its own existence, Doctor Who Velocity is a show about breaking boundaries. Its episodes are short-format stories (usually 15-17 minutes) with limited continuity. Each episode brings something new to the table, both narratively and technologically. Everything is new and experimental, combining conceptual science fiction with a testing ground of special effects techniques. “Krystal and I lamented that her first script’s heady presentation of the story’s wicked response to a female doctor could have easily sustained a 90-minute story, but the 13 minutes it had was all it had. needed to make an impact. Its virtual sets were awe-inspiring, transforming the couple’s living room into a TARDIS or an archaic courtroom at will, but never for very long. The limitless storytelling potential of Doctor Who Velocity stays true to the roots of the series, but is only made possible by the extreme focus that each episode brings. The team knows exactly what they need to say and describe while running the show, constantly pushing the limits of their settings and its limitations. How do Weeping Angels interact with the Internet? What havoc can the Doctor cause by taking the wrong person out of time at the wrong time? How to schedule a turnaround? ge around two children who live in the studio? Doctor Who Velocity is here to answer those questions, one way or another.

Chris is the kind of guy whose artwork you’ve almost certainly seen, but not sure what hand it is. He has worked for major studios on a range of promotional materials, spanning incarnations of the Ninja Turtles, Garfield and Warhammer properties. His time on Velocity is a testing ground for new ideas, allowing him to test the limits of new tools or skills and sometimes incorporate them into his work. It’s what allows the team to go anywhere at any time, a concept that pairs well with Doctor Who. The idea first came to make a project that would not be limited by space and time, hence the entry of our wandering Timelord. Velocity allows experimentation with virtual sets and graphics that leave the viewer inundated with new environments and colorful visuals. The second most recent episode, The Silence, features actors shot on green screen, allowing them to be inserted directly into modeled 3D sets. This gives the camera a dreamlike yet kinetic energy. From Tron to Boglins to a surprisingly dark meditation on the struggle of the arts against religious hegemony, there’s always something new to ponder after each episode of Velocity.

Krystal Moore is no stranger to adaptive working conditions. A professional comedian, she has been put in a bind by the pandemic. Most comedy venues have closed, leaving comedians with nowhere to work. Inside, at least. Taking her show to the streets, Krystal maintained a string of outdoor performances that made her most consistent year yet. It’s this quality of uncontrollable enthusiasm for the craft that makes fan film a rewarding field to follow. This shines through in the show, which manages to retain a strong humanistic outlook, wherever the Doctor’s travels take him.

All eight episodes of Doctor Who Velocity are available for free on Youtube, and recently posted below is the show’s most recent behind-the-scenes video. These insights into the creative process help drive home just how awesome this show is and how sophisticated some of its generative techniques are, but also just how democratized the filmmaking process has become. With nothing but the right computer, a big green screen and, of course, years of special effects experience, Doctor Who Velocity is able to produce clean, aesthetically unique and narratively deep work. Locations are expensive and complicated to schedule, forcing fan films to shoot guerrillas or limit their shoots to public locations. Even the 3D sets or in-universe camera work has been seen in the professional realm before, but it still feels more flat or contrived than The Silence. The ability to import pre-modeled sets and place actors on them could be a game-changer for low-budget filmmaking. It certainly added an unmistakable new atmosphere to Doctor Who Velocity.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much this show sapped Boise Idaho of his talent. Mat Gillikin’s vibrant body armor pieces gave weight and identity to the Tron episode. Monica Aguilar’s knowledge of Mexican poetry gave The Silence its premise, but her acting brought Juana Ines de la Cruz’s struggles to life. It takes a careful hand to match outlandish visuals with historical pathos, but Doctor Who Velocity manages to thread the needle, with a feverish, dreamy energy that leaves a singular impression.

It is not known how long this project will last. The next step will try to make the most of a tragedy. When Dylan Wood, one of the cast members of the series, was injured in a car accident, he lost the use of most of his body. Dylan looked forward to continuing to use his acting talents, despite mobility challenges. This poses a new question for the team: with the technology at their disposal, what are the limits of an actor with reduced mobility? When we spoke, Chris was full of ideas, and I can’t wait to see where this phase takes the team.

Doctor Who Velocity doesn’t have a set schedule, but so far its future is bright. The teams Facebook page is a good resource for live events, and you can check out Crystal’s website if you want a taste of his comedy. Whether it’s in the TARDIS, the Seventh Dimension, or Boise Idaho, I’m glad these two are helping us see that there’s magic everywhere.
