Commanders will no longer stream matches on The Team 980
The Washington Commanders will no longer broadcast their matches on The Team 980 after the two sides could not reach an agreement on a new contract.
Team 980, formerly known as ESPN 980, made the announcement on Wednesday – becoming the latest company to end its relationship with the team.
Last week, Anheuser-Busch confirmed it was cutting ties with Commanders as its official beer sponsor, while Inova and Medliminal also dropped out last year.
The station also said the shows will not appear on any other Audacy stations next season. Audacy, formerly known as Entercom, also owns sports station 106.7 The Fan.
“The organization and society disagreed on the value of the shows and the station felt it was also important to continue to be able to provide honest and objective news, analysis and commentary on commanders,” The Team 980 said on its website.
The commanders have not yet responded to a request for comment.
Team 980 said it will launch new Commanders coverage on matchdays in place of the games live stream, “including at least four hours of pre-match coverage, a new talk show in-play focused on analysis, fan reaction and in-game betting, and capped with full post-match coverage.
Julie Donaldson, Bram Weinstein and DeAngelo Hall made up Commanders’ three-person radio commentary team last season, providing play-by-play and analysis.
