FIFA 22 FUT players beg EA to bring back relegation
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team has seen its fair share of promotions already, and more are on the horizon. Here’s a full schedule of every special card we expect to see in FUT this year.
One of the most appealing aspects of FIFA 22 Ultimate Team is the constant rollout of new promotions and special cards.
Fans have already seen Ones to Watch and Road to the Knockouts added to the mode, in addition to FUT Heroes and ICON in packs throughout the year.
With so much content to come, we’ve put together a detailed timeline and description for every promotion and special card game to hit FIFA 22.
EA likes to keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to promotions in order to keep things surprising at every turn.
That being said, some special cards have become FUT staples and are returning to the mode around the same time each year.
So, although there is no official calendar yet, we can look to previous years to come up with a detailed promotion calendar.

Team of the week
Team of the Week Cards have been a staple of Ultimate Team for many years, providing a constant stream of new cards based on actual performance.
Every Wednesday, the best players from the last round of domestic or international matches receive an upgrade to replace their normal card in this week’s packs.
A staple of EA to kick off a new season, Ones to Watch maps are dynamic items that can be leveled up consistently throughout the year.
These special cards are awarded to players who participated in a large-scale move during the last transfer window.
OTWs automatically reinforce to match the highest rated TOTW that player has won and stay there until their next shaping.
Road to knockouts
Road to the Knockouts is a new promotion for FIFA 22, celebrating the three European competitions that clubs can compete in during the 2021/22 season – the Champions League, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League.
Selected players whose teams win three of their last four group stage matches or advance to the round of 16 receive permanent bonuses to their cards.
Records, as the name suggests, are awarded to players who entered the record books within the past year.
For example, in FIFA 22, expect Cristiano Ronaldo to be included to set the international goalscoring record.
These cards tend to be a one-time upgrade, but greatly improve player stats.
FIFA traditionally gets a promotion every Halloween. What started as Ultimate Scream turned into Rulebreakers with FIFA 21.
These cards give players big boosts, but also fundamentally change the way they play by swapping their stats.
Slow forwards can lose some finishing ability in favor of rhythm, while attacking full-backs can become strong defenders.
Adidas 99 is another brand new promotion for FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, backed by the real world sportswear brand.
These special cards are selected by EA, with a stat being chosen for regular upgrades throughout the year at times decided by the developer.
This stat will continue to receive boosts until it peaks at 99 and becomes one of the best cards in the game.
Group stage team
While Road to the Knockouts rewards team performance, the group team stage is all about individual sparkle.
These are unique special cards given to the best players in each group stage of European tournaments, whether they are a prolific goalscorer or a point guard at the back.
The beauty of TOTGS is that the player’s team doesn’t even have to qualify for knockouts to be recognized.
FUTMAS / Gel
Christmas is always good for Ultimate Team players thanks to the annual FUTMAS (or Freeze) promotion that EA rolls out.
Here, fans are treated to a regular rollout of special cards and SBCs to celebrate the festivities, every day.
Road to the final
Similar to Road to the Knockouts, RTTF cards are constantly upgraded based on a player’s team performance in Europe.
This time, upgrades are awarded for individual wins in two-legged knockout matches, as well as progress to the next round.
Road to the Final players can become some of the cards in the game if their team goes all the way.
Headliners is a promotion that celebrates the best players of the season so far and gives them an extremely desirable card.
These dynamic elements always maintain a higher rating than a player’s highest rated Team of the Week, meaning they can continue to develop throughout the year.
Team of the year
The most prestigious and expensive cards of every FUT season, the Team of the Year brings together a roster of the best players from the past 12 months and gives them an incredible stat boost.
TOTY is only for the best of the best, and cards rated 99 are not uncommon to see.
This made him one of the rarest and most powerful players in Ultimate Team history.
This concerns the young people who will illuminate the world stage in the years to come.
While their base cards may be unusable due to their age, Future Stars cards provide a glimpse into what a starlet can look like if she reaches her full potential.
The likes of Curtis Jones and Ansu Fati were ranked in the ’80s and’ 90s in FIFA 21, suddenly making him one of the best players in the game.
Every year EA celebrates Ultimate Team’s birthday with a festival full of original maps, SBCs, and objectives.
This is where FIFA looks back on the fan favorite players who dominated the previous FUT years and brings them back with big improvements.
If you are a longtime gamer, you are bound to recognize a lot of these cards.
Team of the season
Arguably the most popular promotion in all of FIFA, the Team of the Season recognizes the best players in each major league for their performance throughout the real football season.
Each week a new league of TOTS players is placed in packs with massive upgrades over their normal cards.
There are also plenty of SBCs and goals to complete, as well as a fan-voted squad to participate in.
While most of the other promotions are based on actual football, FUTTIES is a victory round for the current version of FIFA itself.
Throughout the event, meta-players who have been popular throughout the year, like Gabriel Jesus or Ben Yedder, clashed in fan votes.
The winner receives a heavily upgraded FUTTIES card to help them compete against the hundreds of other special players in everyone’s club.
So there you have it, that was all the promotions and special cards that we expect to land in FUT this year.
EA might have more tips up its sleeve, so stay tuned to Charlie INTEL for the latest updates.
