Is the cloud the future of gaming? Industry experts intervene

Currently at $ 1.8 billion, the Indian gaming industry is expected to reach a value of $ 6-7 billion by 2025. Detailing more statistics, a report from the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in collaboration with OnePlus and RedSeer also said that the pandemic has accelerated the organic growth of digital games, with mobile app downloads increasing by 50% and user engagement by 20%.

Today, video games engage around 2.8 billion people worldwide and that number is expected to exceed 3 billion by 2023.

The mere growth of all of these numbers has led the gaming industry to rethink its technology. From hardware consoles to cloud gaming, there is a complete change in technology. With the help of the cloud, AI, and other cutting-edge technologies, businesses deliver a personalized experience to users.

Dive deep into the subject, ‘The game redesigned: the power of the data cloud” at YourStory TechSparks 2021 were Vimal Venkatram, Country Manager, India, Snowflake; Vikas Gulati, Founder, Jambox Games; Darshan MS, chief architect, Adda52 (Gaussian networks); and Prithvi HV, Technical Manager, Gamezop.

Cloud gaming trumps traditional gaming

“There are a lot of business results for customers when they move to the data cloud,” Vimal said while sharing his thoughts on how the cloud has enhanced the customer experience at Snowflake. He added that cloud gaming can “improve the engagement and retention of your subscribers, increase revenue from in-game purchases, accelerate ad revenue and much more.”

“The ability to understand data in depth is very important… This is why cloud and gaming analytics has become so important,” added Jambox’s Vikas, saying that “gaming was seen as an art, but it ‘is actually more like a science’.

Speaking of the diverse set of players at Adda52, Darshan said, “The cloud has enabled the kind of hyper-personalization and personalization that we would like to do for a player.” He mentioned that the kind of data and information they provide to their users would have been “a big challenge without the support of the cloud ecosystem.”

Cloud gaming allows most gamers to play AAA titles at relatively cheaper rates, according to Gamezop’s Prithvi, because they can stream games to any machine and just pay for their use, which would be. otherwise expensive as they would have to buy expensive networks, monitor for updates, etc.

Break down barriers

Elaborating on the issues facing the industry when it comes to data security and privacy, Darshan said, “The technology stack is now mature, there is a clear line of what is acceptable, what is acceptable. is not … we, as a company, are much more confident about what [data] can be exploited, what needs to be protected, what can be used to provide a better experience for the end user of the game; and do all of this efficiently without using expensive business solutions.

Panelists further highlighted the many benefits of cloud gaming in making data safe, secure and easily accessible.

Speaking about how cloud gaming has created a level playing field, Vikas said: “Previously, large companies, gamers and vendors used data to their advantage; but now even the smallest studios, publishers, publishers are able to acquire users and use the same data that everyone has access to.

And after?

Emphasizing on tackling security risks and protecting data, all panelists referred to safety and security as a core function in their respective organizations, and not as an afterthought.

Executives also highlighted new trends and technologies that are poised to take the industry to the next level. Speaking about the barriers to creating new games, Vikas said, “Cloud gaming will allow multiplayer, competitive and social gaming to flourish.”

“HTML5-based games will also be on the rise… it’s portable, mainly focused on non-gamers who become casual gamers,” Prithvi said.
