Optimized for gaming and creative applications – Samsung brings high-performance 990 PRO SSD to Australia – Samsung Newsroom UK

The 990 PRO SSD’s blazing speeds can reduce load times and increase game responsiveness while its thermal control solutions help keep the drive at an optimal temperature for virtually uninterrupted gaming.

Available starting today, the first 100 people to pre-order the 990 PRO SSD through the Samsung online store between November 7 and November 20, 2022 will receive a bonus T7 500GB Portable SSD worth $149.00 .

The speed and efficiency of the 990 PRO SSD make it a compelling choice for avid gamers and creatives.

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology,[1] today launched the pre-order for the SSD 990 PRO in Australia – a high-performance PCIe 4.0-based NVMe SSD that offers blazing fast speeds and power efficiency. Available from Samsung’s online store and select retailers in a 1TB model and a 2TB model; the new SSD is optimized for graphically demanding games and other intensive tasks, including 3D rendering, 4K video editing and data analysis.

“With continued innovations in gaming, 4K and 8K technologies, and AI-enabled applications, consumer needs for high-performance storage are growing exponentially,” said Phil Gaut, senior director of the display and memory brand, Samsung Electronics Australia. “The 990 PRO strikes an optimal balance of speed, power efficiency, and reliability, making it an ideal choice for avid gamers and creative professionals looking for uninterrupted work and play.”

Extreme performance for an immersive gaming experience

Featuring Samsung’s latest V-NAND and a new proprietary controller, the 990 PRO series offers the highest speed currently available from the PCIe 4.0 interface[2]. The SSD offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 6,900 MB/s, respectively, while random read and write speeds reach up to 1,400,000 and 1,550,000 IOPS[3], respectively. With up to 55% improvement in random write performance over 980 PRO[4]the 990 PRO is particularly well suited for heavy gaming as well as creative and productivity tasks.

High-performance NVMe SSDs are also essential for taking full advantage of the latest gaming and gaming console technologies. Powered by NVMe, the 990 PRO delivers fast load times to compatible PCs and consoles for an immersive gaming experience. When tested with Forspoken[5]Luminous Productions’ action role-playing game supporting the latest game loading technology, map loading time was about one second, compared to 4 seconds for SATA SSD and 28 seconds for HDD ( HDD).

Exceptional energy efficiency and reliable thermal control

Built on a low-power architecture, Samsung’s newly designed controller dramatically improves SSD power efficiency by up to 50% compared to the 980 PRO.[6]. Additionally, the 990 PRO uses a nickel coating on the controller and a heat sink label on the drive for reliable thermal management. Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology further ensures that the drive temperature remains within the optimal range.

Samsung’s 990 PRO SSD is also a great solution for laptop and desktop upgrades as well as build-your-own PCs, delivering a significant performance boost while using minimal power for a long battery life and thermal management.

Launched on November 21, the 990 PRO SSD is available for pre-order starting today via Samsung’s online store in 1TB (RRP: $265.00) and 2TB (RRP: $439.00). JThe first 100 people to pre-order the 990 PRO SSD through the Samsung online store between November 7 and November 20, 2022 will receive a bonus Portable SSD T7 500GB worth RRP $149.00[7].

A 4TB capacity version and a 990 PRO version with heatsink have been confirmed for launch next year, with availability in Australia yet to be announced. The 990 PRO version with heatsink will provide an extra layer of thermal control while its RGB lights make it a stylish addition to the PC versions.
