The next Xbox Series S/X update will allow you to play even faster
All game time is precious and the sooner we can access these games the better, right? So news that Xbox engineers have shaved a few seconds off the console’s boot news will certainly be welcome.
While still in testing and only available to Xbox Insider members at this time, the boot time in the latest version has been reduced by around five seconds.
Overall, the Xbox Series X/S now takes 7 seconds to boot from Energy Saver Mode instead of 12, which is a significant decrease. As The shortcut notes, this could encourage more gamers to select power-saving mode rather than the low-power sleep mode, which offers nearly immediate resume times.
The news came in response to a tweet from engineering manager Eden Marie, who said players had contacted here about a suspected upgrade. His colleague John Munsee confirmed that he had worked to create a shorter boot animation.
She tweeted: “Someone asked me about this, and I admit I had no idea, but I checked, and yes, the boot animation and boot time cold in general on Xbox Series X|S consoles have been shortened in the latest insider builds!Who else noticed?
Munsee replied, “Can confirm. I worked with @harrisonhoffman and @jakerose27 to create a shorter boot animation (~4s) from the original boot animation (~9s), helping reduce overall boot time.
It’s unclear when Microsoft will roll out the update, which will bring the console’s boot times in line with the Nintendo Switch and Sony PS5, but hopefully it’ll be part of the console’s next major software update.
Microsoft is also working on integrating Discord voice chat, making it the first console to fully integrate the popular third-party chat platform. That too could happen in the coming weeks. What else do you expect from Microsoft in the coming months? Let us know @trustedreviews on Twitter.
