ATHENS, Ga. –The University of Georgia women’s tennis team recorded 11 wins — six singles and five doubles — Saturday in Day 2 of the Sea Pines College tournament.

“There were a lot of great tennis matches here today,” the Georgia head coach said. Jeff Wallace. “It’s early fall and everyone is looking to get some games. I’m trying to see the things the players need to work on and I think this tournament gives the information to a lot of coaches. We look forward to one more day of the Sea Pines College tournament tomorrow.”

Georgia has recorded five doubles wins. Second year students Guillermina Grant and Dasha Vidmanova beat Old Dominions Allison Isaacs and Alexandra Viktorovitch 6-2, while Ania Hertel and Anastasia Lopata defeated Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins of Charlotte 6-1 in the first round of doubles. Meg Kowalski and Mell Reasco fell to Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech of Charlotte 6-4.

In the second round of doubles, Hertel and Kowalski picked up a 6-1 win over Old Dominion’s Shahar Biran/Alesya Yakubovich, while No. 20s Reasco and Vidmanova and the tandem of Grant and Lopata picked up a pair of 6s. -3 wins over Lucie by Charlotte Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins and Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize (Ole Miss).

Kowalski earned the Bulldogs’ first victory of the day, in singles. She outscored Furman’s Marissa Pennings 6-0, 6-0. She was quickly followed by No. 101 Hertel who beat Jess Dawson (Furman) 6-2, 6-1, while No. 26 Lea Ma defeated Lillian Gabrielsen of Ole Miss 6-3, 6-1. May Nirundorn completed the Bulldogs’ first group in singles, falling to Charlotte’s Lucie Petruzelova in three sets.

In the afternoon, No. 79 Vidmanova picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Reka Zadori (Ole Miss). She was followed by Grant who took a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Emma Wilkins (Charlotte). No. 13 Mell Reasco beat Allison Isaacs of Old Dominion 6-0, 7-5, while Lopata fell heartbreakingly to Shahar Biran (Old Dominion) 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Georgia will continue its action on Sunday, October 2 for the final day of the Sea Pine College tournament. The first service is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
