Zydeco Hoopfest ends matchday two

The matches start to end on the second day of Zydeco Hoopfest.

The three-day basketball tournament consists of 110 teams – local, in-state and out-of-state – playing at recreation centers across town.

Saturday matches end at 10:00 p.m. League matches are scheduled for Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The games take place in the following leisure centers: Martin Luther King, Comeaux, Robicheaux; and in the following high schools: Northside, Carencro, Comeaux, David Thibodaux.

20% of the proceeds will go to Lafayette Parks and Rec.

Scott Brazda of KATC spoke with organizer Brian Jolivette about how the tournament’s mission is to give back.

He and other organizers hope the tournament will continue to grow.

“This tournament isn’t just in the Gulf States or the south,” said gymnasium director Corey Dixon. “So this tournament is over. It is growing to a huge level and that is something that we want to keep doing to move forward. We will continue that next year as well.”
